So far the George W. Bush Administration has been very good.  The Huskies have not lost a game, going 2-0-1 against UNH, Merrimack, and UMass-Amherst.  Let's face it, the Clinton years stunk.  In fact the dogs have not had any real success since Reagan was in the White House.  Now, we here at the Unofficial Fan Page aren't going to make any bold predictions, or even make the spurious connection between Republicans vs. Democrats in the White House, but let's just look at the History on the dogs between Reagan and Clinton.  Reagan years: 1982 Frozen Four appearance, 3 Beanpots, 1988 Hockey East Championship.  Clinton Years: crap.

One factor that is not spurious is the home attendance boosting the team.  The Huskies are almost unbeatable at home when the old barn is holding more than 4,000.  Fewer fans than that and it can get ugly.  So bring a friend or two to the next game.  Form a line out the door for tickets.  Fill the building and make some noise.

Let's go Huskies!

The 2000-2001 Hockey East Pre-season Coaches Poll has been released and National Championship Game loser Boston College has been voted number 1.  No surprise there, nor in the rest of the top four voting: only four points separate the top three teams with UNH coming in eight points behind Maine.  There is a substantial drop from there.
Northeastern is the pre-season number five with just 38 points followed by UMass-Amherst, UMass-Lowell, and Merrimack.  Last year the Huskies fared very well against the top four teams in this year's poll, but they "spit the bit" against the bottom four teams.  Losses to UMass-Lowell and Merrimack were back breakers that sent the season into a tailspin.  A sweep against Maine at home in December followed by two ties in home-and-home action against UNH - both when the opponent was ranked No. 1 in the nation - led us to believe that the dogs had some juice.  The juice dried up against the cellar dwellers.  If the Huskies are to have a breakout year they must beat the teams at the bottom of the chart when the opportunity arises.

Junior Defenseman Jim Fahey has been named team Captain.  Seniors Brian "Hey buddy, sorry to knock you down so hard.  Maybe next time you'll just stay out of my way" Cummings and Mike Josefowicz have been named Assistant Captains.

Hockey East Pre-season Coaches Poll     (Points)
1. Boston College (72)
2. Boston University (69)
3. Maine (68)
4. New Hampshire (60)
5. Northeastern (38)
6. Providence (37)
7. UMass-Amherst (26)
8. UMass-Lowell (20)
9. Merrimack (16)
